Excellent resource

I purchased this book as a gift for my mother in law, she had been searching for it for a long time. It's simply small hand drawings of virtually every quilt pattern in existance. No fancy directions, just the drawings on hundreds of pages broken down into Square, Triangle, Rectangle, Applique, and Other patterns. She absolutely loves this book!

If you are looking for a wealth of patterns...buy this book!

I am very happy with my book and the author has given us a rich resources of quilting patterns. My reason for buying this was to use it has an inspiration as a calligrapher that decorate contemporary versals letters where they are drawn and filled in letters. This book helped me to incorporated these quilting patterns in my decorative lettering artwork. I have been a fan of decorative pen-flourished inititals and these quilting patterns are great to use for contemporary ornamental initial letters.
Also this book is great for Doodling Artists that are looking for example on shading and different tone level working with pen and ink. For example, on page 252 the pattern named "Always Friends" is a great example of different patterns drawn in positive shape using different pen and ink tones.
Also, this book help with the basic geometric shapes. The author has divided the book into seven categories:
1. Square
2. Rectangle
3. Diamond
4. Circle
5. Hexagon
6. applique
7. miscellaneous
This is not an instruction book but a quilt pattern book that define the different names of over 2,000 patterns that are used in quilting.
I am thankful to this author for writing this book because not only does it helps me with my folkart patchwork quilting but the patterns can also be used in my calligraphy artwork.
When the author wrote this book in 1988 she probably did not think it would benefit a calligrapher that does decorative letters and doodling flourishing penwork. I highly recommend this book not only to quilt makers but to anyone that is looking for patterns to add to their artwork that uses pen and ink as an Art Medium. This is a great book to add to your library for pen and ink.

Great reference book!

This is a wonderful reference book. If you are good at drafting patterns you will love it. However, there are no color pictures and all of the quilt blocks are hand drawn. The blocks are great though and the author even tells you where you may find the blocks, e.g. KC Star, Laura Wheeler, Marie Webster, etc. Then there is a complete alphabetical listing as well. This is a must have for the avid quilter!
