About the Author
E.W. Jameson, Jr., is Professor Emeritus of Zoology at the University of California, Davis, and author of Vertebrate Reproduction (1988) and Patterns of Vertebrate Biology (1981). Hans J. Peeters is Professor Emeritus of Biology and Zoology at Chabot College. His illustrations have appeared in Birds of North America (1997) as well as in several other bird guides, and he is author and illustrator of the forthcoming title Raptors of California (2005).

Identification Made Easy

I am a permitted wildlife rehabilitator in California and this means that every year I receive calls and animals from all over the state. In order to treat and release any wildlife I have to know exactly what it is. I have had the older version of this book for years but was currently training a new volunteer and knew that they had to have this for identification. Once again, I found it on Amazon at the best price. The book has color pictures to help me identify the exact animal I am working with and also tells me the areas where it lives and the habitat it needs to help make decisions on where to release it. A brief description and natural history also help with animals I don't deal with often. I often get calls on a mouse. There are several native species of mice and they often need different methods of treating and certainly need to be released away from people but among their own. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in knowing who lives among them!

Just okay

The descriptions are bit technical for me (a lay person), the illustrations are minimal. Lots of anatomical drawings of skulls which aren't very helpful for me to identify live or intact animals. Not a lot of natural history information, i.e. habits, behaviors... I wish they did the "Sibley treatment" to this subject matter.
